Welcome to the Color a Classroom with Love website. Our goal is to provide a space to easily connect educators who are impacted by the Camp Fire with supporters and donors willing to help in the rebuilding and recovery. Our goal is to support teachers beyond the immediate need, as the recovery efforts will continue for some time.
Donate here to our ongoing Fundly account: LINK or visit the For Donors page to find teacher wish lists. And thank you for your support of students and teachers impacted by the fire.
This effort was started by Monica Brown and Amy Niess, local elementary teachers who saw a need and knew how to help. What started as a small flyer shared on Facebook has now grown to over 1200 people wanting to help. Kim Jaxon, faculty at Chico State and 6th generation Butte county resident, joined the effort with her students who are pre-service teachers. Together, they hope to match teachers and support for the long run.
We hope that teachers will share their needs, either through the Facebook group page, by emailing us, and/or by creating their own Amazon or Target wish lists and DonorsChoose pages. We would be happy to share links to your wish lists here: we’ll add your links and a short bio about you on the “For Donors” page, so that people who want to help can do so with your specific needs in mind.
For donors, we hope that you’ll stay with us for the long run and consider adopting a specific classroom to help that teacher with supplies throughout the year. Perhaps you can take the lead for a group of Donors–perhaps your local friends–who would be willing to support a classroom. We will be sure to connect you with an area teacher who would appreciate your support.
What you can find on this site:
- A space for educators to share requests for funding, supplies, or ask for other classroom and student needs.
- A space for donors to easily connect with educators and offer support.
- Resources and links that may be useful to rebuilding efforts (coming soon).
Please check out the pages above based on your needs and interests for more information.
Our hearts go out to our community and we thank all of you who have reached out to support educators.
Monica, Amy, and Kim
